Trusted environmental services supplier, Lucion Services, re-awarded asbestos management contract for Yorkshire NHS Trust

8 February 2022

We are proud to announce that our Environmental team have been awarded the bid to supply Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS for asbestos services through the NHS North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC), Asset Compliance, and Security Services, Lot 2.1 for asbestos management services.

As the UK’s market-leading provider of asbestos management services with Europe’s largest asbestos testing laboratory, we have a successful track record of providing asbestos testing, inspection, consultancy and management services to multiple public sector clients and over 60  NHS Trusts in the past 3 years, all of which have specific needs and operational pressures.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are one of six teaching hospitals in the Yorkshire region and hosts one of the busiest emergency services in the county.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services, some community services (including family planning and audiology) and some specialist tertiary services including vascular surgery. They serve a population of more than 444,000 across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas and run three hospitals; Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw District Hospital, Mexborough Montague Hospital.

Our Role As Asbestos Service Suppliers

Our specialist Asbestos Environmental team will provide re-inspection surveys of the Trusts’ asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) located within their sites as well as ad-hoc sampling, air monitoring and specifications for remediation works

The Trust requires an experienced supplier who can provide the re-inspection surveys with priority assessments. The purpose of this contract is to ensure that previously identified/suspected ACMs have not deteriorated or been damaged and that all such survey works are carried out in full accordance with HSG 264.

Our expert team are fully aware of potential pitfalls which may be encountered and specific considerations which must be addressed when working in live healthcare environments as we have delivered our services to over 32 NHS clients across the UK over the past ten years and are currently serving 9 NHS Trusts at present.

By providing accurate data collection during the re-inspection programmes we will assist in the Trust remaining compliant with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, helping to keep their buildings safer places for all personnel on their premises safe from asbestos risk and achieving their vision ‘to be the safest trust in England’.

Given the nature of the work environment, we will be tasked with carrying out work within both sensitive and busy locations. We always aim to deliver our services with minimal disruption to the Trust and its patients.

Chris Wilson, Lucion’s Head of Accounts for North East and Scotland, commented:

“We have worked with our client Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for over 9 years delivering our asbestos management services. During this time we have worked closely with their teams to ensure they continue to comply with The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 by keeping their asbestos registers up to date through the completion of asbestos surveying, testing and remediation consultancy where required.

Ensuring that both people and the environment are protected from the dangers of asbestos has been our core focus. We are on track to deliver a service which goes above and beyond the standards for CAR 2012.”

Additionally, for many NHS Trusts, expertise of Micad and the Mi-Asbestos App, property data management system, is a must for suppliers.

Our expertise in Micad and the Mi-Asbestos App

For over 10 years we have helped numerous clients to manage, update and audit their Micad databases including day to day management and update of the system, as well as mass data entry and audit/repair exercises.

Our Surveyors have undergone training in the use of the Mi-Asbestos app for accurate and consistent update of asbestos risk data. Additionally, we supply our own Ipads with the Mi-Asbestos App already installed on them for direct connectivity to the Asbestos Management module of Micad.

We have 8 specialist Micad Technicians within our Operational Support team that have undergone specialist training with Micad approved external trainers, EFM Consulting Ltd, and have been involved in client-led Micad training workshops. Their in-depth knowledge of the system means they can provide additional support above and beyond the requirements for this contract.
